Introduction
Father Willem and son Maurice van der Kruk from Tiel have been a known name in the pigeon sport for years. It all started in the 80s, just after the start in Andelst. The move to Tiel in 1985 only had a positive effect on the performance of the pigeons.
They have regularly amplified the pigeon colony with top pigeons from home and abroad. That is why they have a great acquaintance in the Netherlands and abroad in the year 2008. They can be found on regularly basis on Teletext and in the pigeon papers, despite the unfavorable location of Tiel in Section 7 Middle-Nederland (2,700 members).
Andelst
In 1980; while still living in Andelst the first contacts were
made with local pigeon fanciers. And the first pigeons were
bought. These pigeons are still in the pedigree of the top
pigeons today; this enabled a great start in 1980. A flying
start in 1981 with a first and second prize on the first two
flights that we competed in. This made the desire and taste of
victory and fame increasing. Purchases of cracks from the region
during the years 1984 till 1987 together with the fact of having
2 excellent breeding hens took care of top results with several
TOP results in great competitions. The move to Tiel in 1985
turned out not to have any negative influence on the colony
regarding the 4x1sts Victories in LCF Teysterbant in 1986; at
that time with 500 members.
A search for better pigeons resulted in a trip to Aalsmeer in 1990. Cor Buis (in the beginning of the 80's already competing under the name Buis-Snoek- Aalsmeer) were the ones, which we had followed for a couple of years. In the autumn the first pigeons came to Tiel, summer youngsters from the top pigeons. This after Cor Buis had a great season behind him. The last flight: St. Ghislain Hornu, 5,868 pigeons in competition; prizes 1-2-3-4-16-18-24-32-33…etc
The first purchase of 1990 turned out to be the right one. The "Tornado" NL 91-1771991 took care of a victory in the LCF Teysterbant from Houdeng against 5,565 pigeons. During 1991 there were several visits to Cor Buis. Youngsters from the top pigeons: "3333", "Belg 340"," De Generaal", "Dure Koppel", etc…. accompanied with the necessary advice, came to the Papesteeg in Tiel. In 1992 again we made a trip to the Aalsmeerderweg in Aalsmeer and from the "Kleine Belg" and the "Belg 374" youngster came to Tiel. The last purchases where from the total sale of Cor Buis from Alsmeer. Because Wim and Maurice new which pigeons were the best, they bought for a couple of thousand guilders the absolute top pigeons. The NL 87-2542221, a daughter of the Jong Koppel from Peer van Gompel and herself mother of several top pigeons, one of her daughters the NL 92-2668313 won 2 times the 2nd prize in Section Amsterdam, went to Tiel. Also a son of "De Kleine Belg 376" and a daughter of "De Generaal". Also top pigeons from Ger Hamers from Heiloo and Steef Duin from Heemskerk were added to the breeding loft in 1992.
Restart
The plans for 1995 were big, until Wim in September 1994 suddenly had to go into the hospital for hip surgery. Besides the busy work of Maurice including the decision to leave the parental home, this made for a tough decision. The time, which was available in the coming years, was not sufficient enough to compete at this top level. At the peak, with great plans for the future, we made the tough decision of a total sale of all breeding and flying pigeons. The total sale was not the success which was expected and for 28 pigeons of the total colony of 139 pigeons there was no interest in them. With this 'over abundance' from the sale we went into the winter and Alie and Maurice were capable enough to take care of this little colony. Friend and enemy as well as the family van der Kruk was surprised when the very first results of the season 1995 came on paper. It went fast, not to say faster then the last years. The highlights of the season 1995, Car winner Department R against 5,639 pigeons. The amount of pure first prizes was 11!!!!
Willem became better during 1995 and so went on building our winning colony. A voucher of the combination Admiraal-Padding from Sleeuwijk took care of the next reinforcements. Besides the pigeon on the voucher (NL 96 -2668405, Won 1st prize Bourges in 1998!) summer youngster’s from all the top breeders with the bloodlines of the Zoontjes pigeons by H&O from Nieuwendijk. The Louis van Loon pigeons by the Bakers Jan van Hassel and son from Wernhout and of course the toppers from Jan Admiraal. Also a voucher from Ad v.d. Wiel & Dochter was cashed and also some pigeons from the line of "De Generaal" went to Tiel. We also visited Gebr. Saya from Heer.
1997 and further...
The strategy was set and on all disciplines except the long distance. In 1997 and 1998 the youngster’s from the purchases were tested very hard and that resulted in 9 first prizes in 1997 and 8 first prizes in 1998. With 2 times Teletext in 1998 : 2nd prize N.P.O. Orleans, Old pigeons with the 'Schalie Jack' and on the Derby of Youngsters, Orleans the 8th prize N.P.O. District 7 Middle-Nederland. The purchases on the total sale of Klinkhamer & Zn from Utrecht and Peter van Osch from Zutphen had also resulted in successful cross breeding. With also yearly Teletext references and in 1999 the 1st and 2nd Ace pigeon youngsters in District 7 Middle-Nederland. In the winter of the year 2000 we contacted the Long distance matador’s father and son Boijen from Schinnen/Nuth, to gain also the successes on the long distance flights (500-650m). During the season 2002 the first yearlings stood the tests. After the successful seasons 2003 and 2004 the long distance pigeons were sold in public with success through www.pigeons.net. Amongst those long distance pigeons were some 1st prizewinners.
Meanwhile the results in the Netherlands and Belgium where studied
closely and several fanciers were put on the list for an appointment
to visit there lofts.
Cor and Harrie Leytens were visited and the impressive visit to the men in Oostelbeers resulted in a series of top pigeons from the best breeders of the brothers Leytens. These were added to the colony Van der Kruk in 2002 and 2003, amongst them from ‘The 2nd W.K.', a sister of the 'Lammert' and a sister of 'Reneris', children of 'Pedro', 'Blauwe Jack' and from the parents of 'Jeannie'. Already in 2004 this resulted in first prize winners and “Ace pigeons”. Also we went to Dordrecht to Kees Bosua, Peter van de Merwe and Piet van de Merwe. In 2003 pigeons from Peter van de Merwe from the 'Blauwe Crack', 'Gwen' and 'Spike' came to Tiel. From Piet van de Merwe came a couple of top breeders to the Papesteeg from the best of Piet that proved itself 100% later on. Therefore we had to wait till the summer of 2004, but the waiting was worth while! A full sister of 'Miss Troyes', bred in 2005 already the best youngster, and a daughter and a son of 'Femke' were add to the breeding loft.
Beside that we traded with Cor Buis/ Hillie Romein of the good old strain Cor Buis and with Cor Buis Jr., at this time competing on the old address of Cor Snr. in championship style.
We also visited the flying teacher in Roosendaal, Rinus van Gastel, who had bred some special bred champions in the fall of 2003. Of course with the 'Rocket' blood in there veins. This from the pigeons which he sold in 2004 with great success and under great interest for an enormous amount of money.
The year 2003 was the year of the Combination Visscher from Glanerbrug with great results, National Championships and Ace pigeons. In 2003 some pigeons went to Tiel from the top breeders. In 2004 and 2005 we traded pigeons and that lead to successes for the both of us. Combination Visscher won a 6th and 8th NPO and Teletext with 100% van der Kruk. In Tiel we discovered a top hen that went as youngster from Glanerbrug to Tiel.
The search after extraordinary pigeons in the fall of 2003 and 2004 resulted in reinforcements from Anton & Hilde Reynaert, Passendale in 2005 with 5 children from Figo. At Leo Heremans, Vorselaar we bought pigeons from the former successful combination Heremans-Ceusters from Olympiade, Wonderaske, Jan, Favoriet en Euro bloodlines. But also in the Netherlands we discovered some super fanciers, with a small loft. Frans Timmermans in Wehl with his now known 'Camelion Bonfire' and Cees Terschegget with his 'Super 635' really great pigeons with super results in big competition. Surely a solid base for top results.
From the Olympiad pigeons of Gust Janssen and Rudi Diels both from Beerse, some children went to Tiel, which have to breed children in 2009 and maybe some surprises.
On
the beautiful lofts with a total length of 18 meters there are
during the flying season 24 widowers and 12 widow hens, split in 4
sections of 2 by 2 meters, to compete in speed, middle distance and
one-day long distance flights (75 -450 miles). An amount of 75 youngsters take care
of the rejuvenation of the colony and not to be forgotten the chain
results.
We also stay focused to buy appropriate reinforcements, the search for the Super birds never stops !!!
In the years between 2000 and 2010 W.J. van der Kruk won 122 first prizes (without doubles) against an average of 1,683 pigeons.
